To Alice Springs

23rd May 2015

We were getting close to our next destination – Alice Springs. We had booked a space in a caravan park, but were a bit early for it. We travelled leisurely, stopping for geocaches on the way. The first one was at the Finke River Crossing.

The Canonball Memorial reminds us of the tragic accident when in the first (and last) Canonball Run in 1994 two officials and two drivers were killed when a very inexperienced driver slammed into the race officials at 300km/h. The driver had never driven such a powerful car and was unused to Australian conditions. It was a mistake that there were no entry requirements to participate in the event.

There was a geocache located nearby. (Lesley’s photo)

Another geocache was located near this beautiful bush opposite the Mount Pole Hill Rest Area.

Here is me, signing the log book. Anyhow – it was somewhere on the way to Alice.

When we got to about 50km from Alice Springs we had phone reception again. This allowed us to ring the caravan park and change our booking. For me it was a chance to take some more photos.

We arrived in Alice Springs early afternoon and set up for a few days stay.
