Easter 2016 – Day trip to Eulo & Yowah Opal Fields

8th April

We had decided on a day trip west to Eulo and the Yowah Opal Fields leaving the van in Cunnamulla, planning to lunch at the cafe at Yowah.

First stop was the small town of Eulo where this unusually decorated home caught our eye.

The sign explains it all.

He really does look like an oversized, very happy wombat.

These small outback towns don’t always have a lot of exciting things happen!

We arrived in Yowah at lunchtime looking forward to eating at the cafe. Unfortunately, despite all the external signs that it was open, the doors were firmly locked. Perhaps there had been a death in the Aboriginal Community resulting in the community run Information Centre and Cafe being closed. The trip was not a total waste as Erich managed to find a memorial to photograph.

After that we made a quick run back to Eulo to have lunch at the Pub. When we arrived at about 1.15pm the place was packed with locals. The lunch offerings were fairly basic but we were satisfied with our steak sandwich and chips.
