Finally our much anticipated Kimberley Cruise is about to begin! We had arranged to leave our vehicle at the secure Odyssey depot in Broome for the duration of the cruise. When we arrived, there were 3 caravans parked up in the yard and set up on power while their owners went on the cruise. These people booked their cruise direct with Odyssey.
We were collected by bus from the depot and then picked up the rest of the passengers from their accommodations spread around Broome. Our departure was from the beach at Gantheaume Point on to Homer, Odyssey’s tender vessel.
Eddie, one of Odyssey’s owners seeing us on our way.
Dylan and Bob, two of Odyssey’s skippers.
Approaching Odyssey, our home for the next nine days.
Faithful Homer following in our wake.
Passengers and crew.
All meals were set out in Bain Maries where we could help ourselves to what we wanted. Liam, the cook, did an amazing job coming up with interesting and healthy meals every day together with his wonderful home made breads.
Our last glimpse of the Broome coastline for a while.
The crew were quick to get the fishing lines out behind Odyssey.
We booked the last available cabin on this trip – it was modest to say the least. But as we only intended to sleep there, we were happy. The “deluxe” cabins on the deck above were better appointed though there were no ensuites on this small vessel. Shared bathrooms for all.
Almost eye to eye with the fish.
Fellow passenger Glenn was quick to get into the action.
And was quickly rewarded for his efforts.
There is always time for a game of Scrabble.
It wasn’t long before we saw our first whales.
We think these birds are Brown Boobies.
And so our first day aboard Odyssey draws to a close.
